Structural and Functional Brain Imaging: Implementation and application of magnetic resonance imaging methods for the study of human cognition

FCT – POCTI/46955/PSI/2002

The present project outlines a realistic work plan to establish a Portuguese state-of-the-art cognitive neuroimaging research environment including structural (SMRI and DTI) as well as functional (FMRI) capability for the investigation of human cognition. This represents an interdisciplinary collaboration between several researchers, including a research team from the Universidade do Algarve with expertise in Cognitive Psychology, Linguistics, and Cognitive Neuroscience, the Instituto de Biofísica at the Universidade de Lisboa with expertise in medical physics and image processing, the Karolinska Institute, the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and the D. C. Donders Centre For Cognitive Neuroimaging with expertise in human cognition, psycholinguistics, and structural as well as functional neuroimaging methods as applied within the Cognitive Neurosciences, and the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Centre Clínica Fernando Sancho (CFS) which provides modern technical facilities and MR scanner for the different types of MR imaging that will be pursued within the project.
